Badminton Development Officer

Hi,

I am Nicki Gilder and I am the Badminton Development Officer for Oxfordshire. I am employed jointly by BADMINTON England and Oxfordshire Badmintons Assoc. for 3 days a week, and am here to support YOU in a variety of ways.

 I have been in post for 2 years now and have built up a good relationship with all of the District Council Sports Development Officers, various officers at the County Sports Partnership, and School PE teachers, Heads of PE and Partner Development Manager’s (those who plan School Sport across ALL SCHOOLS. both Primary and Secondary.)

This partnership style of working brings so many benefits. I am an active member of a 10 sport National Governing Body Group, and we work together delivering festivals and competitions….for example The Oxfordshire Youth Games.

My role is varied and challenging, one minute sitting in a Council office with Sports Development Officers planning Holiday programmes across the regions, the next presenting to Heads of PE across all 5 Districts in the County. My personal interest lies within the club structure. I am keen to support players, coaches and clubs with any area of development; assisting with membership issues, coaching problems and accessing a place to play!

I have a Work Programme which is prescriptive, Sport England dictate the target groups that most sports they fund deliver to, Badminton is not alone here. BUT ..I  am happy to be reactive too.  My planned areas of work for the coming season are:

• Run a disability project with a Club Link
• Support 2 Bonanzas for Social category player
• Continue to support 4 more clubs on the Club Mark programme
• Set up Performance Centre opportunities.
• Support Coaches CPD….mentoring scheme.
• Launch and support  new National  Inter SSP Tournament
• Expand the current Club Affiliations
• Expand Junior League
• Ensure that all 5 School Sports Partnerships are delivering BADMINTON through Curriculum time and at After School clubs, linking with affiliated clubs.
• Increase women’s and girls’ participation at 16yrs plus.

This short insight into what I do could be written far more professionally…BUT this is the real me…a club player with a passion to grow our sport, raise its profile and make sure that all those who want to, can access a club to belong to!
