The 2010 Oxfordshire Junior Open
Was held at the White Horse Leisure Centre
On Saturday 20th and 21st Sunday 21st March 2010
Once again Oxfordshire held a very successful weekend of Badminton, with the 31st Oxfordshire Open.
The U13's, after a few hiccups with pull outs, went according to plan, with the number one seed, Alex Panyda, from Bucks winning the boys singles in a close fought game against Sean Richardson from Sussex. The girls final, again was a nail-biter, with Devon Minnis, from Norfolk, taking the title against a younger Kerry-Anne Leaney from Bucks.
Oxfordshire's Daniel Cook, with his partner Luke Budnyj, from Hampshire, reached the boys doubles final, beating some tough opposition on the way, but losing to the number one seeds Sean Richardson and Kyle Cherry in the final. Not a bad result as Daniel and Luke had never played together before. The girls doubles was won by Isabel Hatt and Kerry-Anne Leaney, the mixed by Kyle Cherry and Devon Minnis.
Some of the top players in the country turned out for the U15's. The star of the day was Kelvin Latimer, from Hampshire reaching all three finals, not bad as he still has a year to go in U15's. With the number one seed failing to get out of his box, the boys singles was opened up, with some close fought games, giving us a David and Goliath final with Kelvin and Conor Bambrick, from Hertfordshire. With Conor just taking it in the end 21 -18. The girls final again was a tense one with number one seed Philippa Broadbent, from Dorset, winning against her doubles partner Zoe Hallam from Staffordshire. The pair made it to the girls doubles final, losing out to Tsui-Yee Lau and Melissa Stride. The boys doubles was won by Kelvin Latimer and Angus Pedersen, against Duy Tran and Joel Douse. We ended the weekend with a great game in the mixed final with Stuart Holden and Zoe Hallam winning against Kelvin Latimer and Melissa Stride.
A great weekend was had by all and Oxfordshire players didn't disgrace themselves against what was some tough opposition.
