It is a privilege to be given the post of Chairman of the association as badminton has been very dear to me for many years. We as an organisation are making great stride forward in developing badminton through clubs, schools and leisure centres. We now have a full time Badminton Development Officer and already we can see the changes that have been made in our sport.
This could not be possible without the infrastructure we have by way of the amount of volunteers we have that give up so much time and devotion to the sport and we are always looking for more help.
On this site you will be able to read about the successes this season, particularly our County
The biggest change facing is of course the new “rally” 3 x 21 points scoring system, which the IBF have now ratified as the official scoring system This was introduced at all BADMINTON England (BE) sanctioned events, which brings it immediately into play for County matches and tournaments. It is now being used by all the teams from County, Junior and league for the first time this season. I am sure it will prove a great success.
Just a final point on the League front is our target to get more young players into clubs. We are looking this year to find a way to channel the many keen youngsters who play in school and junior clubs, into senior clubs. Clubs generally need players, and there are youngsters who would secure the future of the league and the clubs if we could match the opportunities and, most of all, make them welcome. Let us know if you can help, or have vacancies.
I look forward to seeing many of you on court throughout the next few months.
Steve Pope, Chairman, Oxfordshire Badminton Association
